About the Salem Airport

Salem Airport is located in Kaamalapuram on the National Highway No. 7 which is also called Salem-Bangalore Highway.  Kaamalapuram is located near city Omalur, a place 20 KM away from Salem City. The airport of Salem was ready for operation in 1993. The airport is built over an area of 136-acres. Initially the airport was constructed with an intention of having Vayudoot services which were basically meant for small aircraft. The runway was initially 1,350m which got expanded by 600 meters more so that bigger planes could use the runway. Kingfisher was the first airlines to start daily flights from Salem Airport in 2009.
Salem Airport offers domestic flights and it has the facilities for pilot training as well as flight training. The runaway of this airport can handle 2 ATR aircrafts at a time. 100 passengers can be managed at a time at this single terminal.
